Our Medicinal Shrooms. No, Not That Kind.

Thanks to the excellent Facebook feed of Catskill Native Nursery, I was able to identify that this mushroom growing all over our dead hemlocks is more than likely Ganoderma tsugae, otherwise known as Reishi or Lingzhi.

It’s a trippy looking ‘shroom to say the least, and its potential uses in Eastern medicine goes on and on, including tumor suppression.

  1. Don Victory says:

Dr. Andrew Weil, the reknown doctor who incorporates non-traditional medicine into his repetoire thinks certain mushrooms have the ability to fight cancer and boost the immune system. Asian mushrooms such as enoki, shiitake, maitake, oyster all contribute to the immune system and protect against viral infections and cancer. He and Dr. Oz list the best mushrooms to eat or you can substitute the pills which have the concentration needed for the best boost. 🙂 Betty
